30 September 2008 'Many drivers' unintentionally drive while over the alcohol limit
More than half (51 per cent) of drivers have unintentionally climbed behind the wheel of a car the morning after a night of drinking and been over the drink drive limit, it has been noted.According to breathalyser manufacturer AlcoSense this is the reason why nearly one out of every five drink drive prosecutions take place in the mornings.
The firm states 90 per cent of people surveyed were not aware of the fact that a 250 ml glass of 13 per cent wine and a pint of six per cent strength lager equates to 3.4 units of alcohol.
AlcoSense says: "We've all been there. Heading out to the car the morning after a few drinks and a small thought crosses your mind, 'Could I still be over the limit?'"
Therefore, it recommends people take steps to ensure they do not start driving when their blood alcohol level is above a safe amount.
Alcohol education group DrinkAware states people in charge of a vehicle while over the legal limit could face three months behind bars.
