Volkswagen has unveiled the latest incarnation of the Golf in concept form ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, which is due to take place from October 4th to 19th.

The new vehicle features and electronic limited slip differential which is linked to an electronic stabilisation programme system, allowing it to maximise traction and improve responsiveness, the manufacturer states.

A 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine powers the GTI concept.

"The new engine is both more efficient, returning 37.6 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 178 g/km of CO2 compared to 189 g/km for the outgoing car," Volkswagen explains.

Walter de Silva, one of the team of three designers behind the new vehicle, comments: "We wanted a consistently clear GTI design, a car that has power, but style as well."

The vehicle is fitted with seven airbags, climate control and a CD stereo, as is the case with all Golf models.
