23 September 2008 Be studious with home insurance, says Nationwide
Parents should not let their children forget about home insurance as they settle into university life over the next few weeks, Nationwide has urged. The financial services provider reminded mums and dads that if they check to see if student possessions are covered under their own policy, they could avoid paying extra to insure the items when their child is away from home.
Nationwide explains items taken to university - such as DVD players, stereos, televisions, games consoles and study books - have a potential total value of over £1,500, meaning it makes sense for a policy to be put in place.
Robin Bailey, insurance director at the company, states: "Parents may be unaware that their child's contents could be covered under their own home insurance policy and therefore may not need to take out additional cover while they are living at university."
In recent days, Confused.com recommended parents ensure they get home and car insurance policies sorted for their offspring before they head off into further education.
