A driver's date of birth could play a part in their need to make a claim on their car insurance, according to new data from elephant.co.uk.

Research by the financial services provider suggests those road users born in December pose the greatest risk to other motorists.

Elephant.co.uk cross-referenced the number of drivers' claims, traffic offences and speeding misdemeanours with their birthdays and identified the dates of birth of motorists most likely to have an accident or conviction.

Brian Martin, managing director of the company, said it was interesting to note that people with more unusual birthdays - such as February 29th and December 24th - featured in the top three worst drivers.

September 16th was identified as the date of birth of the worst drivers.

Earlier this year, a study by price comparison site moneysupermarket.com found that people born under the Aries sign of the zodiac are responsible for the most at-fault motoring accidents.
