18 September 2008 Women 'scared to go head-to-head with men'
Female car insurance customers are afraid to do battle with men in private plate auctions, according to the DVLA.The group has revealed of the 9,400 motorists who have registered to bid in sales for personalised registrations this year, less than nine per cent are women.
A three-day auction due to take place at the Haycock Hotel in Cambridgeshire next week has apparently attracted a total of two females so far.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations marketing manager, said the lack of women could not be put down to the fact they were not interested in private plates.
He stated there were figures to show this was not the case.
Mr Lawson added: "All we can presume is that they're avoiding doing battle with the guys."
DVLA Personalised Registrations organises six auctions at locations across the UK every year.
Further details on these sales can be found on the group's website.
