15 September 2008 Van insurance vital as thieves target satnavs
A warning to vehicle owners from Greater Manchester Police has highlighted the importance of van insurance.Motorists have been advised to be vigilant against criminals following a spate of satnav thefts in Wigan.
During the past two weeks, seven such devices have been stolen from vehicles in the Poolstock and Newtown areas.
Inspector Peter Clarke of the Pemberton neighbourhood policing team said valuables should never be left in an unattended vehicle.
He added: "Motorists should also remove the satnav cradle and make sure they wipe away any suction marks left on the windscreen or dashboard."
Inspector Clarke stated anyone who witnessed anything suspicious should contact the police immediately.
Drivers have also been advised to mark property with their postcode and vehicle registration number.
Elsewhere, the Crewe and Nantwich Guardian recently reported a man responsible for stealing approximately 50 satnavs from vehicles has been jailed for two years and four months.
