12 September 2008 City dwellers 'more likely to risk driving without van insurance'
Van drivers who live in big cities are more likely to get behind the wheel without insurance than those living in smaller towns and villages, the British Insurance Broker's Association (Biba) has said. This comes after figures from the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) revealed six of the top ten hotspots for uninsured drivers in the UK are areas in the West Midlands.
Graeme Trudgill said this was probably a result of the cover was more expensive in cities like London and Birmingham.
In contract he claimed people "living in a nice village in Wales" would find it much easier to get their hands on cheap van insurance.
He stated this was because there were lower crime rates and fewer accidents in more rural locations.
Nevertheless, Mr Trudgill said cost was not an excuse to break the law.
"The laws are there and they will catch you if you try and evade and the net is tightening," he warned.
The study by MIB revealed some 150,000 uninsured cars, vans and motorbikes without insurance were seized by police last year.
