11 September 2008 Motorists 'will not get away with driving uninsured anymore'
The government has laid out plans that will make driving without car insurance in the UK a thing of the past, one group has claimed.According to the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba), databases containing information on motor insurance policies and registered car owners will be compared in order to discover those people who are driving illegally.
Further details on the new proposals are expected to be made public over the coming months.
Graeme Trudgill from Biba said he thought the proposals could make a big difference.
He stated: "Basically, you're not going to get away with driving uninsured anymore."
Figures from the Motor Insurance Bureau have shown there are approximately two million uninsured vehicles on roads in the UK.
The area where motorists are most likely to drive without car insurance is Barkerend in Bradford.
In this particular part of West Yorkshire, there are more uninsured drivers per head than anywhere else in Britain.
