10 September 2008 Travel insurance customers 'should book early'

Holidaymakers told to book early People who usually leave booking their holiday until the last minute, including buying travel insurance, make want to make an exception this year, the Travel Magazine has advised.

Founder of the publication Sharron Livingston said leaving it late is more expensive these days and should be avoided where possible.

Nevertheless, she insisted there were steps travellers could take to ensure they were getting one of the best deals around.

Ms Livingston stated: "My advice is to sign up to as many newsletters as possible because that's where online travel agents first promote their offers."

She added this would also ensure if there were any tempting last-minute offers, holidaymakers would not miss out as companies would include those kind of deals in their publications.

Approximately 44 per cent of travellers book holidays on the high street, according to figures from Which?

The same survey found 29 per cent of people phone or visit a travel agent before settling on a deal.
