01 September 2008 Motorists stuck in traffic 'ten minutes per day'
Drivers in Greater Manchester are finding themselves in ten minutes' worth of traffic jams every day, new research has found.According to an online survey conducted by onepoll.com, this is something suffered by seven out of ten motorists once per day.
It could be that car insurance customers risk their accidents and making a claim if they are continually stopping and starting their vehicles.
The issue is one of concern for the city, according to Wigan council leader and chairman of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, Lord Peter Smith.
He said: "Businesses can only benefit if all the people who are arriving late for work each week as a result of congestion get there on time."
This comes as research conducted by uSwitch.com has found that motorists are paying a total of £75 billion to drive in the wake of the credit crunch.
