21 August 2008 Qashqai production 'to grow'
Nissan has announced that it is to extend the production of its Qashqai model with the development of the Qashqai+2.The company is to begin to construct the new model at its Sunderland plant, marking the fifth model of car taken on there in the last five years.
Staff numbers have been increased to deal with the extra work, with some 850 new posts created to support it in June, car insurance customers may be interested to know.
Nissan senior vice-president for manufacturing in Europe Trevor Mann commented that the firm is to build on the initial Qashqai's "unprecedented" success.
"This level of volume will contribute to another record production year at our Sunderland plant with an estimated 450,000 vehicles coming off the line," he said.
Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan originally released the Qashqai in 2007.
The model has been produced both in Sunderland and Washington as well as domestically in Fukuoka.
