15 August 2008 Flash flood warning for drivers

Flooding warning for drivers. Motorists in the UK have been warned about the dangers posed by flash floods this summer.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has stated that the amount of rain over the last couple of months has increased the possibility of flooding.

It could be that such a problem sees people claim on their car insurance policies should vehicles be damaged.

IAM commented that drivers should consider an alternative route if flooding looks likely, while they should also travel on the highest section of road.

Furthermore, it is a good idea for motorists to cooperate with each other and leave adequate space in dangerous areas, adding that if they travel through deep flooding they should not take their foot off the accelerator, as water could go up the exhaust.

The warning comes as heavy flooding has been reported in the Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire areas of Scotland.
