The sixth-generation of Volkswagen's (VW) famous Golf brand has been unveiled by the German automobile manufacturer.

According to the company, this iteration will be the most dynamic, technologically-advanced and safest version released.

It goes on sale in the UK this January and car insurance customers may be pleased to hear that it is also eco-efficient.

Indeed, some cover companies could offer cheaper deals to drivers who make an effort to reduce their carbon footprint.

VW AG chairman of the board Professor Dr Martin Winterkorn stated that the model will come to redefine the Golf brand.

"This sixth generation of Golf cars will completely redefine the quality and comfort level of its class over broad categories, offering more customer value than ever before," the official said.

In production since 1974, the VW Golf family car proved to be the first successful replacement for the company's Beetle vehicle.
