04 August 2008 Customers warned over bike security

Keep your bikes safe, cyclists told. It is important that home insurance customers keep their bikes safe and secure if they are to avoid becoming the victim of theft.

Sainsbury's Bank has stated that 1,208 models are taken every day in Britain, with 16 per cent being stolen from homes across the UK.

Those who fall prey to the crime could find that they invalidate their home insurance policies, as they are forced to make a claim.

According to the company, tagging the bike, recording its details and buying a secure lock can keep it from being taken or help in its recovery.

"Bicycles are a popular target for thieves as they can be relatively easy to steal and re-sell. It's important cyclists consider their bike security at home as well as away," said Neil Laird from Sainsbury's Bank.

This comes after Conservative Party leader David Cameron's bike was stolen during a trip to the shops.ADNFCR-682-ID-18715160-ADNFCR
