22 July 2008 Drivers 'should check vehicle tyres'
Motorists in the UK should think about checking their tyres before the onset of summer, it has been claimed.TyreSafe has commented that air pressure, tread depth and wheel conditions should all be assessed before any long journeys are made.
It added that keeping to the correct tyre pressure, as outlined in car manuals, is also important, as is ensuring that they do not to stray from the 1.6mm legal minimum tread requirement.
Those who keep these tips in mind when checking their vehicles could find that they avoid accidents and compromising their car insurance policies as a result.
"Motorists preferring to have their tyres checked professionally can take their vehicle to any reputable tyre retailer, who will be able to provide tyre safety advice and information," TyreSafe stated.
TyreSafe does not run for profit and was initially established 16 years ago as the Tyre Industry Council.
