16 July 2008 Drivers warned against 'morning after convictions'
Motorists in the UK are being warned about the dangers of being caught drink-driving the morning after the night before, it has been reported.According to a survey conducted by the Now Group, 51 per cent of people take to the road following a night out, unaware that they are still above the legal limit.
It could be that this has a serious effect on a car insurance policy, as cover firms may choose to increase costs should they view drivers as a risk on the road.
Katie Shephard, fundraising manager for national road safety charity Brake, remarked that a personal breathalyser kit could help some drivers stay safe.
She said: "Most people don't even consider that after a night of moderate drinking they may still be over the limit to drive well into the next day."
Department for Transport statistics for 2007 show that 2,943 people were killed on UK roads over the course of the year.
