The winners of the first ever What Car? Green Awards will be announced at the British International Motor Show (BIMS) next week.

Environmentally-friendly vehicles across ten categories will be hailed at the event, while one model will be given the title of Green Car of the Year.

It could be that motorists who pick up eco-friendly cars find that they receive cheap car insurance policies from cover companies as a reward.

What Car? group editor Steve Fowler remarked that the company is "delighted" to be hosting the event at the Greener Driving Pavilion next week.

He said: "With increasing environmental concerns among car buyers, not to mention green taxes and spiralling fuel costs, the time is right for a recognised Green Awards."

Earlier this month, What Car? set up a petition for motorists to voice their disgruntlement at the current rising cost of fuel tax costs.
