15 July 2008 Survey reveals extent of Chorley speeders
An initiative to assess the prevalence of speeding motorists in a village in Chorley has found that most drivers break the speed limit, it has been reported. The Chorley Citizen has stated that 70 per cent of people travelling up or down Chancery Road in Astley village broke the 30 mph legal level.
Local councillors have reacted by purchasing a road sign, which monitors drivers' speed and displays it to them, along with a frowning or happy face depending on whether they are above or below the limit.
It could be that those who are caught breaking the law in such a manner find that they pick up increased car insurance policies, as cover firms could see them as a risk and hike prices.
"The parish council feels most strongly that action is needed to combat the dangers of speeding through our village," commented Astley Village parish council chairman Mark Perks.
