15 July 2008 Community comes together to make road safer

Busy Lancashire road 'needs to be made safer'. A community in Lancashire has banded together in order to make a busy road in the region safer, it has been reported.

The Bolton News has commented that a petition containing more than 100 signatures has been given to Bolton council with the intention of changes being made on Radcliffe Road, Darcy Lever.

Local people would like to see safety measures such as rumble strips and pavement barriers put in place to make the area safer, it added.

It may be that the additional features result in cheap car insurance policies for drivers should the region become safer.

"Motorists speed coming down the hill, so we want further safety measures ... The flashing speed sign is in the wrong place at the bottom of the hill. We would like it moved further up," said Anna Kobryn, who is leading the campaign at St Stephen and All Martyrs C of E Primary School.

A similar petition was recently handed to councillors over a speeding hotspot in Little Lever, Bolton, according to the Bolton News.
