11 July 2008 'One in 20 drivers without car insurance'

Car insurance is not being taken out by some Peterborough drivers. For every twenty drivers travelling on roads in Peterborough, one does not have a valid car insurance policy, new statistics have revealed.

According to Peterborough Today, figures from the Motor Insurers' Bureau, five per cent of the 123,134 vehicles on the road do not have proper cover.

The news source revealed that last year Cambridgeshire motorists without insurance were involved in 1,125 crashes on the region's roads.

A spokesperson for the police remarked that "a number of drivers" still think that it is "acceptable to drive without insurance".

"We will continue our robust enforcement of the law, seizing any vehicles we find being driven illegally," said the representative.

Meanwhile, the Blackpool Gazette has cited an RAF survey which found that more than half of the drivers in the UK believe that British roads will be in a state of gridlock within 20 years.
