10 July 2008 Motorists warned over licence plate thefts
Drivers have been warned to make sure that their car licence plates are securely attached to their vehicles, it has been reported.According to the Gloucestershire Gazette, there has been an increase in the number of plates stolen in the area.
The news source added that in some instances the number plates were attached to other vehicles and used to commit crimes.
It could be that those who become the victims of such a crime find that their car insurance policies become compromised if cover companies see them as a negligent vehicle owner.
"The advice we are giving people is to ensure that licence plates are properly secured, not just stuck on," said sergeant Craig Osbourne from Thornbury Police Station.
Earlier this week, the Chorley Guardian reported that there is a link between the number of drive-off crimes at petrol stations in Chorley and stolen licence plates.
