08 July 2008 New weapon against speeders in Wiltshire

Two new speed signs have been set up in North Wiltshire. Officials in North Wiltshire have erected two new speed warning signs in the area, it has been reported.

According to the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard, the £6,500 placards are transportable and can be set up in numerous locations where drivers are exceeding the limit.

It may be that this helps people keep their speed in line, reducing the number of collisions and bringing down car insurance policies as a result.

Councillor Bob Causer commented that "this is a great way of reminding motorists to stick to the speed limit and slow down".

He said: "These signs show everyone just how fast each vehicle is travelling as they pass by and are a great way of getting the message across to slow down."

Meanwhile, statistics from the Department for Transport show that there were 2,943 people in the UK killed in road accidents in 2007.
