03 July 2008 Leicestershire drink-drivers 'facing fines and bans'
Fines and bans will be handed out to motorists in Leicestershire caught over the drink-driving limit in June, according to a local news source. Some 1,215 people were tested over the course of the month, with 94 found to be breaking the law - down from the 139 recorded in summer 2007, Fenland Today has reported.
It may be that a motoring offence has a serious effect on a car insurance policy, as cover firms could view drivers as a risk and put up prices.
"I hope the 94 motorists who will be losing their licences after being caught during this campaign will serve as a warning to others of the consequences of drink-driving," remarked inspector Vivienne Brenchley.
Meanwhile, singer Darren Day has pleaded not guilty at Cardiff magistrates court after being caught drink-driving in the city in June.
