02 July 2008 'Valid licence needed for hire vehicle operators'

Vehicle hire 'will need licence' Officials in Corby have warned drivers that they need to be equipped with a proper vehicle hire licence or face prosecution, according to a local news source.

The Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph has stated that people hiring vehicles such as novelty cars, airport travel buses or limousines need valid Vehicle and Operator Service Agency or council approval.

By doing so, it may be that motorists avoid compromising their car insurance policies, as a fine could result in cover firms increasing prices.

The new rules protect both the business which deal with the hire vehicles as well as the public, according to Corby Council LC lead member for environment David Harley.

Meanwhile, officials in Matlock have warned local drivers to ensure their vehicles remain safe after a series of fuel thefts in the region.

The Matlock Mercury has reported that criminals are cutting fuel lines and then draining out petrol.
