02 July 2008 McCartney picks up environmental vehicle
Sir Paul McCartney has purchased a new environmentally-friendly vehicle, it has been reported.According to the Daily Mail, the former Beatle has picked up a Lexus LS600h and had it shipped over from Japan.
However, the 7,000 mile trip from the production plant could hardly have helped reduce the pop star's carbon footprint, the publication pointed out.
Motorists in the UK who choose to travel in environmentally-friendly vehicles could find that cover firms give them cheaper car insurance deals as a result of the switch.
"To ensure the car's quality and security, as well as to meet marketing deadlines, it was airshipped on a regularly-scheduled commercial flight to the UK," commented Lexus on its decision to fly the model.
This comes as the Environmental Transport Association has stated that emissions-based increases to road tax are to cost £100 to £245 for 2.3 million drivers across the UK.
