01 July 2008 Hull drivers 'angry over parking fee'

Hull motorists not happy with parking fees Motorists in Hull have expressed their dissatisfaction with the amount of money they are paying out for parking, it has been reported.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, the amount drivers in the region are spending on notices has gone up by 21 per cent on the previous year.

This means that the local authorities received more than £7.4 million in charges from motorists in 2006 to 2007, the news source added.

Motorists may find this fee to be extortionate in addition to high road tax and car insurance bills.

Keith Thompson, a motorist from Bricknell Avenue in West Hull, questioned the figures: "If they are making that much profit, why can't councils simply lower all car park charges?"

This comes as officials at Sussex county council are to take over on-street parking enforcement from the police, meaning parking in the region will effectively be decriminalised, the Hastings Observer has reported.
