01 July 2008 Drivers told to keep oil levels under control

Oil levels should be checked regularly, says car care firm British motorists are being reminded to make sure they keep their vehicles oil levels under control if they are to avoid a breakdown.

As part of this, car care company Comma is running National Oil Check Day on Friday July 25th as a means of getting drivers to remember to top up when they need to.

It could be that motorists suffer an increase in the cost of a car insurance policy should their vehicle breakdown, as cover firms may choose to increase costs.

"By the time the oil light illuminates on your dashboard, you may only have a handful of miles before serious and expensive damage is caused to your engine," said Comma's Mike Bewsey.

This weekend, the Observer reported that more fuel strikes could be on the way should oil companies and hauliers not come to a satisfactory agreement over pay.
