01 July 2008 Matlock motorists warned over fuel thefts

Fuel thefts are a problem in Matlock Drivers in Matlock have been warned to keep their vehicles safe after a series of fuel thefts have hit people in the area, it has been reported.

According to the Matlock Mercury, criminals have been cutting the fuel lines of cars in the region and draining them of petrol.

It may be that such an incident seriously compromises a car insurance policy, as cover firms could judge people driving in the area to be at risk and put up prices as a result.

Derbyshire Police official PC John Riley stated that motorists should look to park their vehicle in secure places at all times.

He said: "There have been several reported incidents of fuel thefts in Matlock and we would urge people to be vigilant and report anyone seen acting suspiciously around cars."

Matlock is a Derbyshire town with a population just under 10,000.

It is twinned with the French town Eaubonne.
