27 June 2008 Rogue driver clampdown sees police seize vehicles
Suffolk police officers have been seizing the vehicles of road offenders as part of a crackdown against anti-social driving, a local news source has reported. The Lowestoft Journal has stated that there were 623 automobiles taken from the highways during the first four months of the constabulary's campaign.
It added that 585 of these cases involved drivers who were travelling without a car insurance policy.
Suffolk Police road policing and support inspector Alex Morrison commented that officials are "committed" to reducing crime and tackling anti-social activity.
"Research has shown that there is a clear link between criminality and offenders who commit vehicle document offences. This enforcement campaign is a powerful means of disrupting criminal activity," said the official.
This comes as the Ipswich Evening Star last week reported that three motorists were handed bans from taking to the road after picking up drink-driving convictions.
