26 June 2008 One per minute caught in Cambourne crackdown

Police in Cambourne crack down on motorists A crackdown by police in Cambourne has resulted in one driver caught for each minute of the one hour and a half initiative, a local news source has reported.

The Falmouth Packet stated that the scheme was carried out at a time in which roadworks have resulted in the usual 70mph limit being dropped to 50mph.

It added that there were 95 motorists in total caught out in the clampdown and it could be that they now face an increase in their car or van insurance policies as a result.

This is because cover firms could view the behaviour as indicative of a poor road user and increase costs.

"Such reckless driving could easily result in the loss of control of the vehicle, with the potential outcome of serious injuries or fatalities," Mark Leath, police constable and road casualty reduction officer, remarked.

Haringey Council figures show that deaths and injuries on Haringey roads went down to 78 over 2007, the Hornsey Journal has reported.
