25 June 2008 Police to carry out vehicle checks near airport
Vehicle checks are to be conducted close to Edinburgh airport to make sure automobiles in the area are roadworthy, a local news source has reported. The Edinburgh Evening News has stated that officials will be stopping cars travelling near the site today at random, performing checks and asking for documentation.
Motorists who fail to meet the correct standard may find themselves given a fixed penalty notice, which could in turn lead to difficulties with car insurance companies in the future.
This is because cover companies could view their behaviour as indicative of a poor driver and increase the cost of a premium.
A spokeswoman for the police said: "The aim of these road checks is to remind motorists of the importance of keeping their vehicles roadworthy and safe."
Meanwhile, police in Midlothian carried out driver checks last night after a shooting in the area, according to the BBC.
