The inaugural What Car? Green Awards are to be held by the publication at this summer's British International Motor Show.

Environmentally-friendly models from ten categories across the industry will be hailed at the bash, to be held on July 22nd 2008 - Press Day - at 17:00 BST.

And What Car? is "delighted" to be staging the event in the exhibition's Greener Driving Pavilion, according to group editor Steve Fowler.

Motorists may find that an environmentally-friendly vehicle helps them save on their car insurance policies, as some cover firms offer cheaper deals to those who prove eco-conscious.

"With increasing environmental concerns among car buyers, not to mention green taxes and spiralling fuel costs, the time is right for a recognised Green Awards," said Mr Fowler.

On its website, What Car? states that it is the UK's biggest and best car buyer's guide.
