23 June 2008 Safety crackdown sees motorists fined
Motorists breaking the law in York have been made the subject of a crackdown by police in the area, according to a local news source. The York Press has stated that officials in the region working as part of the Operation Footpath campaign handed out fines to drivers found to be travelling without their seatbelts.
In addition, the news source added that three cyclists were given notices for using their bikes on public footpaths.
Motorists who were given the fines could now have difficulty picking up a car insurance policy in the future, as cover firms may view them as a risk on the roads.
"We hope what we have done this weekend will make people think twice before breaking the law in future and set out a clear signal to them," remarked PC Jo Brooke.
This comes as police in Swindon Advertiser has reported that police in the town have clamped down on motorists breaking the speed limit.
