20 June 2008 Vehicle crime up in Northamptonshire
The number of reported incidents of vehicle crime in Northamptonshire has gone up in the last six months, according to a local news source. Some 500 more incidents were reported between December 2007 and May 2008 compared to the previous six months, the Northamptonshire Evening Times has stated.
It may be that the increase results in more expensive car insurance policies for people in the region, as cover firms could view the area as a dangerous one in which to own a car.
"Sadly, all too many of these crimes are easy to prevent if drivers would simply leave nothing in their vehicle when they park," said superintendent Ivan Balhatchet.
This comes as the Shields Gazette has reported that a car-jacking took place in Jarrow last night.
A 44-year-old man lost his Ford Fiesta after being tricked by a man pretending to be stranded on the roadside.
