18 June 2008 North Yorkshire officials planning speed limit cut

A cut in the speed limit will be introduced in North Yorkshire. North Yorkshire authorities are to reduce the speed limit in one area of the county in order to improve road safety, a local news source has reported.

The Darlington and Stockton Times has stated that motorists close to Topcliffe Primary School near Thirsk will be expected to drive at 20mph rather than 30mph when the cut is implemented.

It could be that such a move results in a reduction in accidents which may in turn see the number of car insurance claims made in the area go down.

According to Topcliffe Primary School headteacher Lyn Chatwick, the institution is completely in favour of the move.

"Cars build up a head of speed as it's a straight stretch and we have children walking and cycling to school," she said.

Meanwhile, York Press has stated that the police patrols have been taking place near St Lawrence's Primary School after reports of poor parking from parents waiting to pick up pupils.
