13 June 2008 Bus lane users 'could be caught on camera'

Those using bus lanes may be punished. Drivers who travel on bus lanes in Liverpool can expect to be snapped by cameras set up in order to catch out those breaking the law in such a manner.

The Liverpool Daily Post has commented that Lime Street and Old Haymarket are among areas targeted by officials where the devices will be installed.

It may be that those who pick up a £60 fine for the crime receive an increased car insurance policy in the future, as companies could view them as a risky road user.

Peter Millea, local councillor and executive member for transport, commented that the scheme has not been set up to make money.

"We are doing this purely to ensure there is good traffic flow around the city with a balance between public and private transport," said the official.

Meanwhile, the York Press has commented that city centre drivers can expect delays when roadworks begin in the area next month.
