11 June 2008 Car owners 'should change habits to help environment'
Car owners have been urged to consider the way they drive their car as well as reduce their driving in order to help the environment.Green Clean Cars has advised against accelerating and braking harshly, while also reminding drivers that maintaining the correct tyre pressure is very important to the efficiency of their vehicle.
Jay Nagley, publisher of the website, said: "In terms of modifying it, there isn't much you can do to the car once you have bought it.
"The most important thing is how you drive it: not to accelerate too hard, not to break too suddenly - to drive smoothly."
He added that many drivers neglect to maintain the correct tyre pressure for their car which can have a bad effect on their fuel economy.
Last month, the AA reported that increases in petrol prices meant the cost of the average bank holiday car journey for the country jumped £110 million on last year.
