05 June 2008 Cost is 'deciding factor' in buying car insurance

Recent research conducted into what motorists look for in car insurance found that the main concern for most was the price.

Only one fifth of people surveyed were concerned with the level of cover provided, while 57 per cent cited price as the clinching decider, according to the Fair Investment Company.

However, those buying car insurance are being advised to look into the other features offered by their prospective cover, particularly their no-claims discount which could save them more money in the long run.

James Caldwell, director of the Fair Investment Company, warned: "Motorists should be careful choosing their car insurance by price alone, the cheapest car insurance is not always the best and there are other aspects to be taken into consideration"

Meanwhile, the Home Office has released guidelines to help motorists and potential purchasers of car insurance to conduct their own assessment of the safety and likelihood of theft in their area.
