Drivers of the Jeep Patriot can now accessorise their vehicles with a range of added extras available from dealers.

Sport suspension, 20-inch alloys and a chrome grill are among the offerings announced by Chrysler this week.

Simon Elliott, managing director of Chrysler UK, said the Startech accessories will offer car insurance customers and other drivers the chance to "personalise the internal and external styling of the Jeep Patriot or even enhance the performance of the diesel engine".

The PowerExtra Performance Module is priced at £999 and aims to boost engine performance especially where heavy loads are transported or caravans towed.

Sam Philip, writer for the Top Gear blog, praised the performance of the Jeep Patriot engine - even without enhancers.

He said that the engine is "as gruff as Brian Blessed with a bad hangover" but also "actually fairly sprightly" once it gets up and running.
