30 May 2008 Police hire superbikes to cut speeding

Bikes to be used to combat speeding. North Wales police officers are hiring superbikes in an attempt to reduce speeding in the area.

Officers in the region are taking out nine-month leases on two Honda VFRs and two Honda Fireblades which they believe will give them an improved chance of catching those driving over the limit.

Motorists who find themselves picking up convictions could discover that their car insurance policies suffer as a result, as cover firms could see them as a road risk and increase costs.

"We are very serious about tackling the causes of road casualties around the roads of North Wales," said a spokeswoman for North Wales Police.

Assistant chief constable for North Wales Police Ian Shannon last week commented that the UK has fallen behind Europe in regards to drink-driving legislation.

The official believes that British law should be brought in-line with regulations on the continent and lowered.ADNFCR-682-ID-18616927-ADNFCR
