30 May 2008 Motorists warned over drink-driving
Steer clear of drinking and driving is the message from police in Yorkshire this summer, it has been reported.North Yorkshire Police deputy chief constable Adam Briggs has said that everyone in the region has "a part to play in reducing the number of casualties on our roads", according to the Darlington and Stockton Times.
He was speaking at the launch of the constabulary's 95 Alive campaign, which has been set up to reduce road accident deaths over the next five years.
Indeed, Department for Transport statistics show that 3,150 people were killed on UK roads in 2006, while it may be that an accident has a serious effect on a car insurance policy if cover firms view drivers to be a risk.
"We want people to go out this summer and have great time with their families and friends, but not to drink and drive," said the official.
