27 May 2008 Drug-drivers face more attention from police
North Yorkshire Police officers are to crack down more on motorists under the influence of drugs while driving, a local news source has claimed.According to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, Operation Anvil was launched in March and has so far seen 17 men and three women caught out for being on drugs.
It may be that these drivers now face increased car insurance penalties, as cover firms could view them to be a risk behind the wheel.
Inspector Dave Brown from North Yorkshire Police reminded motorists of the dangers of taking drugs before hitting the road.
He said: "Driving under the influence of drugs - whether illegal substances or prescribed medication - is just as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol. It is also illegal."
The government's road safety organisation Think! has launched an anti drug-driving campaign every summer and winter since 2003.
