21 May 2008 Motor show displays green cars
An array of electric cars will be on display at this years British International Motor Show.Over 20 zero-emissions vehicles and the largest collections of battery-powered cars ever seen in the UK will be on show, with the focus of the event being on the financial benefits of owning a green car.
Electric vehicles are exempt from the congestion charge in London and drivers of environmentally friendly cars also benefit from cheaper car insurance.
Insurers reward green drivers with cheaper car insurance premiums because they produce fewer emissions and as the cars are usually smaller they are less likely to cause serious damage in an accident.
Motor Show marketing director Kirsty Perkinson said: "The aim of the feature is to highlight the significant advances made in developing zero-emissions vehicles and to reflect the mushrooming demand for these cars."
A report by the Environmental Transport Association revealed that the Honda Civic 1.3 IMA Executive and the Toyota Prius 1.5 T3 were highly rated environmentally friendly cars.
