16 May 2008 Minister 'would like 20mph zones'
The road safety minister has stated that he would like to see more 20mph zones incorporated in the UK, it has been reported.Jim Fitzpatrick told Times Online that the government is looking to install the 20mph areas and cut road deaths in the process.
Indeed, by 2020 the official hopes that fatalities are down to around 2,000 per year, with current statistics from the Department for Transport showing that 3,150 were killed in collisions in 2006.
A road accident can have a serious effect on a car insurance policy, as cover could increase the price of cover if they consider a driver who has been involved in an accident to be a significant threat on highways.
"We could reduce crashes still further, with the help of more 20mph zones, especially in residential neighbourhoods and other areas where there are vulnerable road users," said the official.
