16 May 2008 Grouping 'more important than eco credentials' in cover costs
Motorists looking to pay cheaper car insurance should consider a vehicle's grouping rather than its environmentally-friendly credentials, a sector body has stated.According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), less expensive car cover deals can be picked up based on an automobile's size and how much it would cost to repair, rather than its emissions output.
Indeed, Biba technical and corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill has commented that environmental factors are not a "major factor" in terms of cheap cover.
"Smaller cars, which therefore give out less pollution, are automatically going to be cheaper to insure but it doesn't necessarily mean that a green one is going to be hugely beneficial financially on your insurance," said the official.
This comes as HybridCars.com research last month found that three per cent of the car market is made up of environmental friendly hybrid models.
