22 April 2008 Thefts result in warnings for North Tyneside drivers

North Tyneside drivers have been warned to watch out for theft. A spate of vehicle thefts in North Tyneside has seen police officers in the area issue a warning to local drivers, it has been reported.

News Guardian has stated that the constabulary has told motorists living in the region to familiarise themselves with basic vehicle theft prevention strategies.

Those who do may find themselves making fewer car insurance claims, which could save them money on policies as well as repairs in the future.

According to Detective Inspector Paul Young, vehicle protection "is mostly down to common sense".

"The key for locking wheel nuts should not be kept somewhere obvious like the glove compartment as this is the first place a thief would look after breaking into a car," said the official.

Meanwhile, statistics published by the Home Office show that there were some 1.7 million vehicle-related crimes recorded across Britain during 2006 and 2007.
