18 April 2008 Driver receives payout for pothole problem
A motorist in Lothian whose vehicle was damaged by a pothole in the road has received compensation, it has been reported. The East Lothian Courier has stated that retired teacher Dorothy Thomas incurred damage to her £14,000 Ford Ka when she travelled over the obstacle.
The vehicle's nearside tyre burst while its alloy wheel buckled, according to the news source.
It may be that drivers who suffer such difficulties invalidate their car insurance policies as a result - making a claim or dipping into their own pockets to pay for repairs.
"I am sure that I speak for the entire road-using public when I express my utter disgust at the lack of repairs to our roads," remarked Ms Thomas.
This comes after the Norwich Evening News revealed earlier this year that authorities at Norfolk county council paid out £98,000 in pothole-related compensation between 2005 and 2007.
