18 April 2008 Sefton speed fines top £700K in five years

Some £700,000 was paid in speeding fines by Sefton drivers. Motorists in Sefton paid close to £700,000 in speed fines over the last five years, it has been reported.

The Southport Visiter states that £216,960 was paid in 2007 - up by more than double on the £94,920 recorded over the course of 2002 and 2003.

It may be that those who picked up speeding fines found that they suffered from increased car insurance policies, as cover firms could view them as an increased road risk.

"Speed cameras, or enforcement cameras, are provided at locations where there has been a history of recorded injury collisions caused by excess speed," commented Sefton Council on its official website.

This comes as the Royston Crow has reported that six state-of-the-art cameras are to be set up in Royston.

According to the news source, the digital safety cameras will be erected on the A505 duel carriageway near Baldock and Royston.
