14 April 2008 Drivers 'often look to miss roundabouts'

Drivers will often try to miss roundabouts. Some drivers will be sure to miss out certain roundabouts on their travels if they can, according to new research.

IAM Motoring Trust has stated that the activity is not just from car and van drivers new to the road, but experienced motorists will also skip the feature if they consider it to be high risk.

The body believes that the best way to tackle a roundabout is by being sure to observe the scenario thoroughly and leave a good gap between the vehicle and the car in front.

It added that this gives motorists time to adjust should the automobile in front decide not to cross at the last minute - potentially avoiding an accident and car insurance claim.

"The single most common mistake at a roundabout is only looking to your right as you approach, because that is where you expect traffic to come from," commented the company.

Meanwhile, plans to spruce up a roundabout in Louth are said to be in jeopardy for fear that an explosion in the rabbit population will lead to flowers laid there being eaten, according to Louth Today.
