14 April 2008 Hit and run repairs 'cost drivers £1.3 billion'

Hit and run incidents cost drivers £1.3 billion per year. Paying for repairs caused by irresponsible motorists in hit and run incidents costs drivers £1.3 billion per year, it has been claimed.

According to figures from Autoglass, £73 is paid out by people on average each time they have their vehicles fixed due to a motorists hitting them and then driving away without leaving their car insurance details, the Daily Record has reported.

Indeed, it could be that such incidents are prompted by the fact that some cover firms charge more to drivers involved in crashes, asking for more money in order to insure their automobile.

The statistics also showed that 20 per cent of such incidents stemmed from residential streets and car parks outside supermarkets.

A recent report from the Thrifty Scot suggested that motorists should consider using their vehicles less as a money-saving measure.

Such a change could result in fewer accidents and claims on car insurance policies.
